I've seen them on Ebay for around 60$. from what I've learned -the only things to really look for are cracked handles and bent sole's, rust and minor pitting affect esthetics more than function. pretty much as long as the blade is sharp and you have solid handles, it should work just as good as a brand new one. I'l get some close up shots of mine. the nubers on mine say it was made in 1937....its probably outlived its original owner. I'd say an look for an ugly one for half that price

awsome! They're becoming a pretty obscure tool, probably the last tool anyone would think of for trailbuilding purposes. I'm getting alot of enjoyment out of mine tho, its opening alot of possibilites as far as what I'm capable of making from rough timber. hopefully you can find one without spending a whole lot of money. it has deffinatly become my favorite tool

your the man joe! the big planes that will do logs are stupid expensive new, the old ones are pretty hard to come by. mine was donated. I dont really suggest buying one. the one I've got is a no.7 jointer plane. Ebay would be the best place to score one on the cheap. honestly I'm hope'n the logs are done and the snow has melted by then and we can groom. If you have a plane bring it, if not just bring your favorite flat shovel and a tamper and if there is woodwork to do we can just share my tools
